Product Description

This is a genuine used original Siemens Haldex 2nd generation control unit with part number 7H0907554D (Siemens reference 5WP22223-03 / HAP511), designed for the VW Transporter T5 and Multivan 4Motion AWD system. It serves as the electronic brain of the rear Haldex coupling, responsible for activating and regulating rear-axle engagement based on traction demand and driving conditions.

What This Control Unit Does

  • Monitors wheel speed differences between front and rear axles via ABS sensors
  • Controls the Haldex hydraulic pump to build clutch engagement pressure
  • Activates rear-wheel drive engagement on demand (slip-dependent)
  • Communicates with ABS, ESP and engine management systems via CAN-bus
  • Controls the N373 Haldex solenoid valve for clutch pack regulation
  • Manages pump calibration and learns optimal pressure values
  • Protects the coupling from overheating via thermal management logic
ℹ️ Coding & Programming Note After installation, the control unit must be coded to the vehicle using VCDS, ODIS, or equivalent VAG diagnostic software. A Pump Learn / Basic Settings calibration must be performed with the engine running to correctly calibrate pump pressure values. Without this step, the AWD system may not engage properly. Online support is included – contact us at info@cars-ecu.com

Vehicle Compatibility

The 7H0907554D is designed exclusively for VW Transporter T5 and Multivan 4Motion (body codes 7H, 7E, 7J) equipped with the 2nd generation Haldex AWD coupling. Always verify the part number on your existing unit before ordering.

Transporter T5 7H, 7E 4Motion AWD 04/2003 – 11/2010
Transporter T5 (facelift) 7H, 7E 4Motion AWD 11/2009 – 04/2015
Multivan T5 7H, 7HM, 7HN, 7HF 4Motion AWD 04/2003 – 04/2015
Caravelle T5 7H, 7E 4Motion AWD 04/2003 – 04/2015
⚠️ VIN Range Notice The 7H0907554 series fits VW T5 Transporter / Multivan up to VINs WV*ZZZ7H*A*050000 and WV*ZZZ7J*A*010000 (approximately up to 2010 production). Later T5 models and T6 variants use different controller variants. Always verify by checking the part number label on the existing unit.
✓ Not Sure About Compatibility? If you are unsure whether this unit fits your vehicle, send us your VIN number or the part number from your existing module. We will confirm compatibility before you order.

Common Diagnostic Fault Codes

A faulty Haldex Gen 2 control unit typically triggers one or more of these diagnostic codes. Use VCDS, ODIS or a professional VAG scan tool to read module 22 (AWD / 4WD) – basic OBD2 readers cannot access this module.

  • 00003 – Control Module Defective / Internal failure
  • 01324 – Control Module J492 (AWD): No Communication
  • 02248 – N373 Haldex Solenoid Valve: Electrical fault
  • C1112 – Haldex Clutch Pump: Internal System Fault
  • C1113 – AWD Clutch: Mechanical failure / No engagement
  • U0114 – Lost Communication with AWD Control Module
  • 16670 – All-Wheel Drive C1113 07: Mechanical Failure
  • 16671 – Haldex Clutch Pump C1112 04: Internal System Fault
  • 16668 – Haldex Pump C1112 07: Mechanical Failure Intermittent
  • 16666 – Haldex Pump C1112 13: Open Circuit
  • ESP / ABS light – AWD system disabled, traction control affected
  • No Communication – Module fails to respond to scan tool
ℹ️ Diagnostic Tip Use a professional VAG-compatible scan tool (VCDS, ODIS, VCP) to read AWD module faults. Basic OBD2 readers and phone apps typically cannot communicate with the Haldex AWD controller (module address 22). Always scan module 22 specifically for accurate fault diagnosis. If the module shows "No Communication", check fuses, CAN-bus wiring and ground points before replacing the unit.

Installation & Calibration

Installation Steps

  • Locate the Haldex control unit on the rear differential / Haldex coupling housing
  • Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mounting bolts
  • Carefully detach the old control unit from the coupling housing
  • Fit the replacement unit and secure all mounting points to correct torque
  • Reconnect the electrical connector and verify a secure fit
  • Connect a VAG-compatible diagnostic tool and code the unit to the vehicle
  • Perform Pump Learn / Basic Settings calibration (engine must be running)
  • Clear all stored fault codes and take a test drive to verify AWD operation

Pump Learn – Required After Every Installation

The Pump Learn calibration is a mandatory step whenever a Haldex control unit is replaced. Without it, the unit will not supply correct power to the pump, resulting in no AWD engagement. Use VCDS or ODIS, navigate to module 22 AWD → Basic Settings → Pump Motor calibration. The procedure takes approximately 1 minute with the engine running.

Recommended Maintenance at Time of Replacement

  • Replace the N373 Haldex solenoid valve – highly recommended when replacing the control unit
  • Replace Haldex oil (Gen 2 fluid) and clean the pump gauze strainer
  • Inspect the electrical connector for corrosion or damaged pins
  • Verify both 12V power supply fuses for the Haldex system
  • Check CAN-bus wiring to ABS/ESP module for continuity
  • Clear all stored fault codes after installation and test drive

Why Haldex Control Units Fail

1. Water Ingress & Corrosion

The control unit is mounted on the rear differential in an exposed undercarriage location. Moisture and road water can penetrate the housing over time, corroding the internal circuit board and causing communication failures or complete unit shutdown.

2. N373 Solenoid Valve Damage

The N373 Haldex solenoid valve controls oil flow to the clutch pack. A failed or electrically faulty N373 valve sends abnormal current signals back to the control unit, which can trigger fault codes and, in severe cases, damage the ECU's internal driver circuits.

3. Pump Calibration Data Corruption

The internal memory stores learned pump calibration values. A failing or blocked pump causes incorrect data to be written to the calibration table. Once these values drift outside acceptable limits, the unit triggers fault codes and disables AWD engagement.

4. Heat & Thermal Stress

Repeated AWD engagement cycles under load generate heat that degrades solder joints and electronic components within the control unit over extended service life – especially on high-mileage T5 Transporters used for commercial purposes.

⚠️ Prevention – Recommended Service Intervals
  • Change Haldex Gen 2 oil every 40,000 – 60,000 km
  • Clean pump gauze strainer during each oil service
  • Inspect N373 solenoid valve every 80,000 km or at first fault
  • Inspect the wiring harness and connector regularly for corrosion
  • Scan AWD module 22 if any dashboard warning lights appear

Quality Assurance & Warranty

12-Month Warranty: This used Haldex control unit has been fully tested and is backed by a 12-month warranty covering all functional defects under normal operating conditions.

Warranty Coverage Includes:

  • Electronic control unit malfunctions
  • Communication failures with AWD / ABS / ESP modules
  • N373 valve driver circuit defects
  • Internal calibration memory errors

Warranty Exclusions: Damage caused by incorrect installation, failure to perform Pump Learn calibration, incompatible vehicle fitment, external electrical faults (blown fuses, damaged wiring), or physical damage during handling.

ℹ️ It is strongly recommended to replace the N373 Haldex solenoid valve and Haldex oil when fitting this control unit. A faulty N373 valve is one of the most common causes of control unit damage. Fresh oil protects the new unit and ensures accurate pump calibration. Use only approved Haldex Gen 2 fluid.
