Technical Specifications
Product Description
This complete service kit combines three essential BorgWarner OEM components for a full 4th generation Haldex AWD service: the pre-charge pump (part 0AY598549A), the oil filter (part 2003085), and 850 ml of original Haldex AWD oil (part G060175A2). All three components are new OEM parts manufactured in Germany or EU to the original factory specification.
What the Pre-Charge Pump Does
- Builds hydraulic oil pressure inside the Gen 4 Haldex coupling before the rear clutch is needed
- Allows instant rear-wheel drive engagement when wheel slip is detected – zero delay
- Communicates pump current draw to the Haldex ECU for Pump Learn pressure calibration
- When faulty: AWD disengages, fault codes 02248 / 00448 stored, ABS/ESP warning lights activated
What the Oil Filter Does
- Removes metal wear particles and debris from the Haldex oil circuit
- Protects the new pump from contamination damage – always replace the filter with the pump
- Prevents blocked pump gauze and pressure regulation faults
- Gen 4 advantage: unlike Gen 5, the Gen 4 system has an external oil filter which must be replaced at every service
Why All Three Components Together?
- Single service visit – replace pump, filter and oil in one session, no second disassembly needed
- Old oil damages a new pump – contaminated oil will shorten the new pump life and void warranty
- Old filter defeats the purpose – a clogged filter restricts oil flow to the new pump immediately
- Correct Pump Learn – fresh oil and a clean filter are required for accurate ECU pressure calibration
- OEM quality guaranteed – all parts are genuine BorgWarner, ensuring correct fit and factory-level performance
Vehicle Compatibility
This service kit fits all vehicles equipped with the 4th generation Haldex AWD coupling. Always confirm the Haldex generation installed in your vehicle before ordering.

Target Fault Codes – What This Kit Fixes
The following fault codes are typically caused by a failed or blocked Gen 4 Haldex pump, clogged oil filter or degraded oil. Use a VAG-compatible diagnostic tool (VCDS, ODIS, or equivalent) to read the Haldex / AWD control module.
-
02248– Valve for Controlling Clutch Operating Angle (N373) – Intermittent / Defective (pump pressure loss or N373 valve) -
00448– Haldex clutch: pump pressure defective (most direct pump fault code) -
C1112– Haldex clutch pump – Internal System Fault / Mechanical Failure -
C1113– All-Wheel Drive – Mechanical Malfunction (pump or transfer box) -
01324– Haldex coupling: no signal from control module -
00003– AWD control module – No communication -
P1889– Oil Pressure Pump Performance – pump not building pressure
Installation & Pump Learn Calibration
Preparation
- Drain the old Haldex Gen 4 oil completely before removing the pump or filter
- Have a VAG-compatible diagnostic tool (VCDS, ODIS or equivalent) ready for Pump Learn after installation
- Clean the pump and filter housing areas to prevent contamination of the new parts
Pump Replacement
- Disconnect the Haldex pump electrical connector
- Remove the two mounting screws and extract the old pump
- Inspect the pump bore for contamination or damage
- Install the new 0AY598549A pump and secure with the two supplied screws to correct torque
- Reconnect the electrical connector
Filter Replacement (2003085)
- Remove the two filter retaining screws and extract the old filter assembly
- Discard the old cap, o-rings and filter element
- Install the new filter element, new cap with oil channel and new o-rings from the 2003085 kit
- Secure with the supplied screws – do not overtighten
Oil Refill
- Refill the coupling with the full 850 ml of fresh G060175A2 BorgWarner Haldex oil
- Use only approved BorgWarner Haldex oil – substitutes may affect Pump Learn calibration accuracy
Pump Learn Calibration (Essential)
- Start the engine – Pump Learn must be performed with the engine running
- Connect VCDS / ODIS and access the Haldex control unit Basic Settings
- Run the Pump Learn function – the ECU ramps pump power until pressure reaches the blow-off threshold
- Calibration values are saved automatically; take a short test drive to complete the process
- Clear all stored fault codes and verify no new codes appear after the test drive
Why Gen 4 Haldex Pumps & Filters Fail
1. Clogged Oil Filter
The Gen 4 Haldex system uses an external oil filter (2003085) to capture wear particles. When the filter is not replaced at service intervals, it becomes clogged, restricting oil flow to the pump. The pump is forced to work under reduced supply, overheating and wearing prematurely until fault code 00448 or C1112 is stored.
2. Contaminated Haldex Oil
Degraded oil beyond its service life carries abrasive metal particles that bypass the filter and damage the pump's precision internal components. Regular oil changes – every 30,000–40,000 km – are essential to prevent this.
3. Pump Motor Wear
The electric pre-charge pump undergoes many short high-current start cycles. Brush wear and commutator degradation – accelerated by dirty oil – cause open-circuit faults (C1112 open circuit) or intermittent operation (02248, 00448).
4. Neglected Service Intervals
The most common root cause of Gen 4 Haldex failure is simply skipped or overdue maintenance. The pump, filter and oil are a wear service item and should be replaced together as a set every 40,000–60,000 km or whenever AWD fault codes appear.
- Change Haldex Gen 4 oil and filter every 40,000 – 60,000 km
- Replace the pump, filter and oil together – never replace the pump without the filter and fresh oil
- Always perform Pump Learn calibration after any pump replacement or oil service
- Inspect the pump wiring connector for corrosion after any pump fault
- Scan the Haldex module if any AWD, ABS or traction control warning appears
