Technical Specifications
Product Description
This complete service kit combines the genuine BorgWarner pre-charge pump (part 0CQ598549) with 850 ml of original Haldex AWD oil (part G060175A2) into one convenient service bundle for the 5th generation Haldex AWD coupling. Both components are new OEM BorgWarner parts, manufactured in the EU to the original factory specification.
What the Pre-Charge Pump Does
- Builds hydraulic oil pressure inside the Haldex coupling before the clutch is needed (pre-fill function)
- Allows the rear differential clutch to engage instantly when wheel slip is detected – with no delay
- Maintains working pressure of up to 44 bar within the coupling housing
- Communicates pump current draw to the Haldex ECU for pressure estimation (Pump Learn calibration)
- When faulty: AWD disengages completely, pump fault codes stored (16668, 16670, 16671), ABS/ESP warning lights activated
Why Oil Replacement Is Essential
- Degraded or contaminated oil is the primary cause of Gen 5 pump failure – the system has no fine particle filter
- Metal particles and oil breakdown products cause premature pump wear and blockage
- Fresh oil ensures accurate Pump Learn pressure calibration after fitting a new pump
- Recommended service interval: every 30,000–40,000 km
Why Bundle These Two Together?
- Always replace oil when fitting a new pump – old contaminated oil will damage the new pump and void the warranty
- Single service visit – complete the full Gen 5 AWD service in one session
- OEM quality guaranteed – both parts are genuine BorgWarner, ensuring correct fit and factory-level performance
- Correct Pump Learn calibration – fresh oil is required for the ECU to accurately learn the new pump pressure values
Vehicle Compatibility
This service kit fits all vehicles equipped with the 5th generation Haldex AWD coupling. Confirm your vehicle has Gen 5 Haldex (not Gen 4) before ordering – the pump 0CQ598549 is Gen 5 specific.

Target Fault Codes – What This Kit Fixes
The following fault codes are typically caused by a failed or blocked Gen 5 Haldex pre-charge pump or degraded oil. Use a VAG-compatible diagnostic tool (VCDS, ODIS, or equivalent) to read the Haldex / AWD control module.
-
16668– Pump for Haldex Clutch C1112 07 [008] – Mechanical Failure Intermittent (most common pump fault) -
16670– All-Wheel Drive C1113 07 [008] – Mechanical Failure (pump or transfer box related) -
16671– Pump for Haldex Clutch C1112 04 [008] – Internal System Fault (pump defective, ECU may also need attention) -
16666– Pump for Haldex Clutch C1112 13 [008] – Open Circuit (pump electrical / wiring fault) -
16664– Pump for Haldex Clutch C1112 11 – Short to Ground -
131599– All Wheel Drive Clutch U0114 00 [009] – No Communication (ECU or pump not responding) -
17460– Internal Control Module Memory Checksum Error – B2000 98 – Component/System Over Temperature -
C111307– Mechanical Malfunction Passive / Sporadic (blocked pump – clean and perform Pump Learn)
Installation & Pump Learn Calibration
Preparation
- Drain the old Haldex Gen 5 oil completely before removing the pump
- Have a VAG-compatible diagnostic tool (VCDS, ODIS, or equivalent) ready for Pump Learn after installation
- Clean the pump housing area to prevent contamination of the new pump
Pump Replacement Steps
- Disconnect the Haldex pump electrical connector
- Remove the two mounting screws securing the old pump
- Carefully extract the old pump from the coupling housing
- Inspect the pump bore and housing for contamination or damage
- Install the new 0CQ598549 pump and secure with the two supplied screws – tighten to correct torque
- Reconnect the electrical connector securely
Oil Refill
- Refill the coupling with the full 850 ml of fresh G060175A2 BorgWarner Haldex oil
- Do not use substitute fluids – only approved BorgWarner Haldex oil ensures correct pump calibration
Pump Learn Calibration (Essential)
- Start the engine – Pump Learn must be performed with engine running
- Connect VCDS / ODIS and access the Haldex control unit Basic Settings
- Run the Pump Learn function – the ECU ramps up pump power until pressure reaches 44 bar, measuring the required current and voltage
- The procedure repeats 2–3 times; calibration values are saved automatically
- Take a short test drive to allow the ECU to calculate 1 bar and 15 bar threshold values
- Clear all stored fault codes and verify no new codes appear
Why Gen 5 Haldex Pumps Fail
1. No Fine Particle Filter (Gen 5 Design)
Unlike Gen 4, the 5th generation Haldex system has no fine particle filter cartridge. Metal wear particles from the clutch pack circulate freely in the oil and accumulate in the pump over time. This is the primary cause of early pump failure – regular oil changes are the only effective prevention.
2. Neglected Oil Service Intervals
Haldex Gen 5 oil degrades after 30,000–40,000 km. When the oil is not changed on time, viscosity drops, contamination builds up and the pump has to work harder to maintain pressure. Overloaded pumps wear quickly and eventually fail with fault codes 16668 or 16671.
3. Pump Motor Wear
The electric motor driving the pump undergoes many short high-current start cycles over its service life. Brush and commutator wear – accelerated by contaminated oil – eventually causes open-circuit or intermittent faults (fault codes 16666, 16668).
4. Incorrect Pump Learn After Service
If the Pump Learn calibration is not performed after a pump replacement or oil change, the ECU retains old pressure values. This causes the pump to run at incorrect duty cycles, leading to either under-pressure (AWD disengagement) or over-pressure (thermal stress), shortening the new pump's service life.
- Change Haldex Gen 5 oil every 30,000 – 40,000 km
- Always perform Pump Learn after any oil change or pump replacement
- Always replace oil when fitting a new pump – never run a new pump in old oil
- Inspect the wiring harness and pump connector for corrosion after any pump fault
- Scan the Haldex control module if any AWD, ABS or traction warning appears
